The H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University announces its 2012-2013 season schedule. Single tickets, season subscriptions and flex series tickets go on sale Saturday, July 21 at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Luhrs Center Box Office, calling 717.477.SHOW (7469), or online at luhrscenter.com. Season subscriptions and flex series must be purchased in person or over the phone, and are not available to purchase online.
The 2012-2013 season features a variety of entertainment options including intimate solo artist performances, children’s and family programs, orchestral concerts, comedy and much more.
The 2012-2013 season kicks off on Aug. 7 with Jackson Browne’s “U.S. Acoustic Tour,” featuring special guest Sara Watkins and concludes in July 2013 with the annual Festival 2013 Celebration Series featuring star performances by world-renowned classical artists.
This season’s blockbuster performances include: Wynonna & The Big Noise (Sept. 27), Christopher Cross & Little River Band (Oct. 6), Charley Pride (Oct. 11), An Evening with Liza Minnelli “Confessions” (Oct. 19), An Evening with Huey Lewis & The News (Oct. 25), Glen Campbell “The Goodbye Tour” (Oct. 27), Three Dog Night (Nov. 2), Roger Hodgson: The Legendary Voice of Supertramp (Nov. 9), Clay Aiken “Joyful Noise Tour 2012” (Dec. 8), An Evening with Michael W. Smith (Feb. 9), The Irish Tenors – Wright, Kearns, Tynan – The ‘Let’s Celebrate Ireland’ Tour (Mar. 7), Celtic Woman (Mar 12), An Evening of Doo Wop (Mar. 23), Boyz II Men (Apr. 4), The Texas Tenors (Apr. 10), ABBA The Concert (Apr. 17) and The 50’s Dance Party (Jun. 1).
To tickle your funny bone, we’re offering Sinbad (Nov. 16) and the return of Popovich Comedy Pet Theater (Feb. 16). For those who love our Broadway performances, we proudly present The Midtown Men (the four stars from the original Broadway cast of “Jersey Boys”) (Sept. 14) and Shrek The Musical (Dec. 18). Skippyjon Jones (Dec. 1) is a family-friendly performance for younger children from TheatreWorks USA. Need some advice for training your pooch? An Evening with Cesar Millan: Dog Whisperer (Mar. 9) will provide you with some humorous and useful pointers.
In support of Shippensburg University’s H.O.P.E. Diversity Scholarship Program, Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC’s “Primetime,” John Quin᷉ones, will lecture on the topic of “A 20/20 Vision of Hispanic America” (Feb. 21).
The Luhrs Center will again be hosting a special gala event preceding this year’s performance of The Texas Tenors (Apr. 10). Luhrs Circle of Friends Gala,“Texas Style!” (Apr. 10) is a night of friendship, festivities and fabulous food all set amidst a Texan backdrop to help support the Luhrs Center. A donation to the Gala affords the donor outstanding member benefits such as priority ticket ordering, invitation to the Annual Fund President’s Recognition Dinner and more.
Ballroom Dance Lessons are offered on the Luhrs Center stage as both Beginner and Advanced classes for a six-week period (weekly, beginning Sept. 17). Taught by seasoned dance instructor, Frank Hancock, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics or brush up on your skills as a Beginner; or learn the more advanced steps in the Advanced class.
The Luhrs Center also provides world-class Classical performances like the 44th Festival Celebration Series concerts (Jul. 11, 18 & 25) featuring the Festival Celebration Orchestra at all three concerts, and the Festival Celebration Chorus at the third concert. Robert Trevin᷉o will be guest conductor for the series and guest soloists for each concert will be announced at a later date.
