At approximately 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Shippensburg University students received an SU Alert regarding a shooting off campus near Greek Row.
The text alert said, “Shooting reported at Sunbeam Court. Shooter, described as black male, may be fleeing toward campus. Take precautions. Contact police with information.”
However, the email alert gave more detail to the alleged shooter’s description. The man was described as having dread locks and wearing blue jeans, according to the SU Alert.
About 30 minutes later, students received another alert saying the alleged shooter is still on the loose, but gave no description of his whereabouts. Students were advised to stay inside until further notice.
“The alerts were sent to inform the campus community about the incident and to provide them with information they need to take the appropriate precautions to remain safe,” SU Executive Director for University Communications and Marketing Peter Gigliotti said. “The incident happened off campus so any information about the incident itself must come from Pennsylvania State Police, which has jurisdiction in that area. We will keep the campus informed and update the information when needed.”
As of 2:45 a.m. Saturday, the alleged shooter is still at large. Students and members of the community are urged to stay inside and stay safe.
