This past weekend, two new exhibits opened in the Huber Art Center. The exhibit that opened in the Kauffman Gallery is the SU Student exhibit. There is also solo student exhibit being displayed in the Brindle Gallery by Audrey Ketterer.
The SU Student exhibit opened on Sunday, March 30. This exhibit has thirty-six different students art in it and there are 56 different art pieces. There were three judges to pick what pieces would go into the show. All three of the judges were from Kutztown University. George Graff and Ronald Longsdorf are professors and the third judge, Emily Willow, is an Art Major. The exhibit’s artwork includes mixed media such as: digital fine art prints, wood, oil painting, glass, and wire. Some of the students, whose artwork got into the exhibit include: Hannah Berger, Ashlee Papada, Megan Penisson, and Ethan Rickrode.
The opening was on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. There was an award ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Seven awards were given to the students whose artwork was displayed in the show. Wayne King won the Mixed Media Merit Award for his piece “Ixlan”. The 3D Media Merit Award was given to Nathan Jones for his piece “Gravity”. The 2D Media Merit Award was given to Chelsea Schonhaut for her piece “All American Burger”.
An award was given in honor of Professor William Davis. This award was given to Shayna Jansen for her piece “Six Piece Waltz”. Awards were also given to the first, second and third best of the exhibit. The third place award was given to Hannah Kunce for “ Fides”, which is an Oil painting. The second place winner was Kassandera Gonzalez. Her piece is titled “Debauchery” and is a clay piece. The Best of Exhibit award was given to Kyle Matulevich for his piece “Back Porch”.
Hannah Berger is a junior and an Art Education major. Her piece “Straight from the Can” was accepted into the exhibit. This piece is a mixed medium book. The book is revolved around the street art in Australia. She had an interview with a well known street artist, known as Mini Graff, in Australia. In her interview the artist revealed her true feelings and the scandals of her story being a street artist.
Ashlee Papada is a senior, Interdisciplinary Arts and English major. She has two pieces in the show. Her first piece is entitled “Suckers”. This piece is a abstract watercolor. Her second piece is a wire piece called “Ashlee Wired”.
Megan Penisson is also a junior. She is an Art major and has a minor in business. Megan has three pieces that were accepted into the student exhibit. All three of her pieces are sculptural pieces. Her first piece is entitled “Woman in Power”. This piece is a business suit that she made out of panty liners. Her second piece is “Garlic”, which is made out of Styrofoam that is carved and covered in plaster. The final piece is “Handle with Care”. This piece is a collaborative piece made with Nathan Jones. It is made from stone and wood. It is to represent the past and future.
Ethan Rickrode is a senior. He is an art major and will be graduating this May. He has three pieces in the show. His first piece is a ceramic vase titled “Muthafukka”. His second piece is a mixed media piece titled “No.4” and “Frosted Glass” is the title of his third piece which is an oil painting.
The SU Student Exhibit will be open until April 15 and is being displayed in the Kauffman Gallery.
The solo student exhibit also opened Sunday March 30 and is my Audrey Ketterer. This exhibit is titled “Many Become One”. Audrey is a senior art major with a concentration in ceramics. Her artwork in the exhibit are Mosaics. Her mosaics are similar in style with Henry Mercer, who inspired her style of work. All of her mosaics are abstract pieces that include elements from animals and will include influences from Aztec Art and then some inspiration from everyday life.
Audrey Ketterer’s art work is very colorful and is full of life. She had a piece in the PSU Exhibit earlier this semester. Her exhibit will be open until April 10 in the Brindle Gallery, in the Huber Art Center.
