The 12-3 Shippensburg University field hockey team pulled out the win against the no. 10 team in the country, Slippery Rock (9-7, 7-5), in dominating fashion on Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout.
Bertie Landes, NFHCA Hall of Fame coach in her 16th year at SU, picked up her 450th career win, 266 of which came with the Raiders.
Freshman forward Emily Barnard drew first blood for the Raiders at 13:46 in the contest on a deflection from sophomore Katelyn Grazan.
Barnard scored again at 50:52 off of a feed from Cassie Rawa, and Grazan picked up the final goal with around nine minutes to play.
Freshman goalkeeper Ally Mooney picked up two saves in the first 60 minutes of play.
SU managed 11 penalty corners in the first half to The Rock’s zero, but neither team had a corner shot the entire second half.
Landes now has a 266-67-1 (.798) record at Shippensburg University, and including her 19-year tenure at Cairn University now has a career record of 450-123-17 (.777) record.
The Lady Raiders has a full week to prepare for East Stroudsburg (10-6, 8-4). The Warriors are ranked fifth in the conference, and SU, at no. 3, is in a must-win situation as only the top three teams qualify for the playoffs.
