If you know one thing at the end of the day, it is that Olivia Dallas Johnson loves Shippensburg University.
Johnson, a sophomore from Hatfield, Pennsylvania, is an Act V thespian, a member of the concert choir and a vocalist in the Madrigal Singers, but you probably recognize her by her ever-present smile.
Act V, she explains, puts on a play in the fall, a musical in the spring, and a one-act performance after that. Concert Choir, she continues, is conducted by professor Elizabeth Shoenfelt.
Johnson and the rest of her choir crew are currently preparing their numbers for a concert around Thanksgiving. In the spring, the choir goes on tour with its performance.
The Madrigal Singers are a select choir that performs music from the Renaissance. Last year, Johnson had the opportunity to travel to France with her fellow singers, and she is looking forward to a possible trip to Germany next year.
These are just a few of the ways Johnson has gotten involved on campus.
When asked why she thought getting involved on-campus was important, she said, “It is a great way to make lasting friendships and you can learn a lot of different things from different people in the clubs, too.”
Johnson loves Shippensburg. She explained how it has taught her how to be independent, being it is the first time she is living away from her family.
But these benefits extend beyond her academics; Johnson said she has grown a lot socially, as well. Being both socially and academically capable, she explains, will ultimately help her career.
Johnson hopes to someday write novels and comic books, which she explained have had huge influences on her.
“My favorite thing about the university is the positivity that I get from being here,” she explained. “The people here on campus would be my favorite thing.”
And that is as clear as the smile on her face.
