The Center for Engagement, Service and Learning (CESL) is hosting the first Angel Tree for Shippensburg University. The Angel Tree is a program through the Salvation Army that helps provide necessities and gifts to under privileged children during the holidays.
The Angel Tree Project will run from Nov. 3 to Dec. 3.
The Angel Tree is located on the ground floor of the CUB, next to the information desk. Anyone willing to sponsor a child can pick up a card from the tree. The cards hold the name of the child, age and the item that is being requested for the child. After grabbing the card, bring it to the information desk to register as a sponsor and gain more information about the Angel Tree program.
Sponsors can only sponsor one angel at a time. But if someone decides he or she wants to sponsor multiple angels, then they are able to pick up another card with another angel’s information after they have turned in the gift from their previous angel.
Submit sponsorships to the CESL office, located in room 225 of the CUB.
SammieRay Dinkins, the CESL advisor said, “The students here at Shippensburg University and the faculty and staff supported the project overwhelmingly. So we’ve now sponsored more than 125 angels.”
Dinkins hopes to be able to sponsor 200 angels by the end of November.
“We’re looking forward to doing the Angel Tree Project every year, because this is really what our center is about, giving back to the community and being some sort of support for these individuals who might be in need” Dinkins said.
