Luke Thayer, the comedian, takes on Ship.
Stand-up comedian Luke Thayer stopped by the Ceddia Union Building at Shippensburg University on Friday night to joke about a variety of different topics, from food, family and life in Brooklyn.
The event took place in the "Red Zone," where they offered smoothies and popcorn to all that attended. Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and all of Luke Thayer's funny antics. Throughout the evening audience members were tweeting him and sharing their thoughts on his performance, you can follow him @comedianluke on Twitter.
Luke started the night off with a few jokes about his parents, "My dad is 77 years old. Probably much older than any of your parents," Thayer said. "Are any of your parents in their 70s?" A few audience members yelled out, "Not even close!" Thayer went on to say, "Good! It looks like I win!"
He went on to talk about his parents and their experience with Facebook. "My dad has 3 friends on Facebook – me, my mom and my sister." Thayer said, "Why does he need a Facebook? Why can't he just talk to me at dinner?" Audience members began to laugh and smile, as if they could relate to everything he was saying.
He also spoke about his love for "Thin Mints" Girl Scout cookies. "I once ate an entire package of 'Thin Mints'. I crushed them up and put them in a bowl and poured some skim milk on them," Thayer said, while holding in a burst of laughter. "They were so good!"
As the night went on, Thayer also talked about his traveling experiences in New York City. "Being from the Midwest I never truly experienced public transportation," Thayer said. "New York has a lot of public transportation. People crawl in between your legs and through your arms once those subway doors open."
Luke, who is originally from Indiana and an Indiana University alumni, moved to New York City nine years ago. He is now the creator of the live comedy hour, "The Living Room," and has just recently wrapped up his "Coffee Shop" Tour.
Not only is Thayer the creator of a popular comedy show, but he has also been featured on MTV.com, as well as Tyra. You can also catch Thayer in this season’s "Brain Games" on the National Geographic channel.
Toward the end of the night Thayer talked a little bit about his performances and the shows he has done in the past. "I've performed for big crowds and I have performed for small crowds. I like crowds, like this, because you get to know the audience members," Thayer said. "I had a lot of fun tonight!"
When asked about life in New York and where he gets his inspiration, he simply said, "New York is filled with weird people. The weirder you are, the more people will ignore you. If you are nice to people, the more you will be looked at funny." Thayer continued, "For people in New York to notice you, it's important that you do something they have never seen before, like being nice."
At the end of the show, Thayer stopped to talk to a few of the audience members and tweeted back at them at the end of the night. Not only did Thayer seem to have a fun night, but audience members did, as well.
