Harrisburg — The Pennsylvania Board of Governors voted in favor of adding two new degree programs to three Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities during a special meeting on Feb. 27.
Karen Whitney, president of Clarion University (CU), introduced a bachelor of science degree program in nutrition and fitness. No other school in PASSHE is currently offering the program, which the CU Council of Trustees approved on Nov. 20, 2014.
"Graduates will be prepared for employment in commercial fitness, strength and conditioning, cardiac rehabilitation, corporate or community-based wellness professions," the Board of Governors executive summary states.
Kutztown and Millersville universities organized a joint doctorate degree program in social work in leadership and education. The Board of Governors passed the proposal, which both of the universities' council of trustees approved last February.
"This program is for accomplished professional social workers who are ready to take on advanced leadership positions in which they will create and evaluate innovative programs and best practices in executive and academic positions, as well as function as professional educators," the Board of Governors executive summary states.
Interviews for the position of president at Kutztown University were also held earlier in the day. The Board of Governors are expected to make a decision in the coming week, but there is no guarantee.
