Tylere Cook has recently accepted the position as the newest installment of Phi Sigma Kappa’s president within its Phi Theta chapter. His goals and aspirations for his future employment led him to pursue his leadership positions during his college career and he is not planning to stop anytime soon.
Cook is currently a junior at Shippensburg University, studying geographical environmental studies. He has a dual-minor in physics and mathematics and does not have any immediate plans for graduate school. His employment interests are mostly in environmental engineering and land development.
“I feel as if my ideas for environmental studies overall could really help reduce some of the damage we keep inflicting on this planet,” he said.
This presidency has opened Cook’s eyes to an entire world of leadership opportunities. The executive board of Phi Sigma Kappa, including Cook, plans on making a trip to Indianapolis, Indiana during the summer of 2016. This trip will be beneficial for Cook, since he can see how leaders within the organization handle their positions.
“We have way too much to learn from our superiors. Going to meet these men and study their leadership tactics is something that I am more than excited to do,” Cook said. “There are probably a bunch of things that these guys can point out to me that can make my time as president that much more beneficial to the chapter. I’m here to contribute and I want to do it right.”
Phi Sigma Kappa was able to reach “above and beyond” with their community service opportunities for the fall semester of 2015, according to Cook.
“Our community service chair was awesome. When he stepped into the new position he was a new member and really took this leadership role seriously,” Cook said.
Animal shelters, church functions, alumni charity events and local restaurants all hosted this group of fraternity men and plan on collaborating in the coming spring semester.
“These opportunities were diverse and engaging. With a standard set high, I can’t wait to see what the new position holder does,” Cook said.
“The demands of school are great, while the demands of personal achievement are even greater,” Cook said.
The leadership within this fraternity is strong and anchored, which is one of the things that Cook prides himself on most. As new president, he aims to uphold that standard of dedication and conduct and watch his fraternity brothers grow and benefit in the meantime.
