The atmosphere was electric in the room for the Ship’s Got Talent event. Friends and family gathered to support the acts who were performing their talents on stage.

The event featured mostly singers, with a magician and pianist thrown into the mix.

The judging panel consisted of three Shippensburg University faculty members, including the director of Multicultural Student Affairs, Diane Jefferson.

The event, hosted by Activities Program Board, started with a performance by the band War + Peace. The band performed “Check Yes, Juliet” by We the Kings.

Their performance was followed by pianist Angel Barfield, who performed an original piece titled “Mystery.” The next performer, Tara Kennedy, really stood out with her original song “Replacement.” The judges and audience were very moved by the emotional song.

Midway through the performances there was a break from the musical acts. John Murray performed several card tricks and the crowd was really receptive to them.

Towards the end of the event the audience really was getting into the acts. Kassandra Lawyer performed a powerful performance of “Bust Your Windows,” originally sung by Jazmine Sullivan.

The final act of the night, Sophia, performed “Valerie,” originally sung by Amy Winehouse. The audience loved this performance.

The audience was then given instructions on how to vote via text message. The host entertained the crowd throughout the night, especially between acts and while votes were being counted.

At the end of the night the nine contestants were cut to six. The performers who were cut were Angel Barfield, John Murray, and Josh Purcell.

The remaining finalists will compete in round two of Ship’s Got Talent on March 16 at 9 p.m. in the Ceddia Union Building multipurpose room.
