The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team remains unbeaten, as it defeated Wilmington University, 78–62, to record its fifth straight victory. The Raiders had four different players score in double figures and shot 42 percent from the field.
Shippensburg — who holds a 5–0 record overall, and a 2–0 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) — was led by junior Dustin Sleva and freshman John Castello. Sleva scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out four assists to record his fifth-consecutive double-double. Castello had another impressive game, scoring 15 points and snatching 15 rebounds to record his second-consecutive double-double.
Sophomore Antonio Kellem and junior Justin McCarthur were the other two Raiders to reach double figures, scoring 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
The Raider’s fast-paced offense seemed to be a bit much for Wilmington, as SU jumped ahead 10–0 in the first two minutes of play. As the lead stretched, Wilmington went into a full court press to slow down the Raiders, who proved hard to contain one-on-one.
With seven minutes left to play in the first half, Wilmington was able to bring the score back within striking distance, 22–18. That would be as close as it would get. At half, the score was 47–32 in SU’s favor.
The Raiders shot 53 percent from the free throw line, grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and converted 13-second-chance points.
SU will return to action Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. when it travels to Indiana to battle Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
