Students gathered to honor The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. through gospel and worship in the multipurpose room of the Ceddia Union Building at Shippensburg University on Sunday.
The event was hosted by Impact Ministries. Members of the Harmonic Voices of Truth choir sang gospel songs with attendees. Students were offered a chance to give testimonials about their faith.
The Rev. Emerson Cottrell from St. Paul AME Church in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, gave a guest sermon at SU during the MLK gospel celebration on Sunday.
Cottrell motivated students to stay hopeful, especially during the current political tension, drawing connections to MLK’s ability to lead and continue his ministry in a time of cultural turmoil for African-Americans.
Following the service, students enjoyed homemade meals.
