The Shippensburg University women’s track-and-field team competed at both the Mondschein Multis and the Bison Outdoor Challenge at Bucknell University last week.
At the Mondschein Multis, Kali Dawson and Erica Helm put together solid finishes in the heptathlon, finishing third and ninth, respectively.
Dawson posted a huge personal record score of 4,603 points — shattering her previous PR by more than 148 points. Helm finished ninth with 3,813 points.
At Bucknell, Sarah Hunt and Abby Wagner continued their marvelous seasons with strong performances in the triple jump. Wagner placed second in the triple jump with a personal best and NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 41 feet, 0 1/4 inches, marking a seven-inch PR.
Before the season, Wagner had never surpassed 40 feet in the triple jump, but has done so four times this season. Hunt matched Wagner, producing 12-meter triple jumps in all four meets this season — she placed fourth Friday with a mark of 39 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Hunt currently maintains a Top 15 spot on the national performance list in the event.
Also at Bucknell, volleyball standout Morgan DeFloria made her season debut in the javelin, posting an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 143 feet, 9 inches, slotting her in third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and 10 in Division II.
Crystal Hartman, who was battling injury, shined in the javelin as well, with an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 139 feet, 8 inches. Hartman is currently third on the NCAA performance list in the javelin.
On Day 2 of competition at Bucknell, Hunt stole the show once again, breaking her own school record in the long jump. Hunt’s jump of 20 feet, 3 3/4 inches was an NCAA-automatic qualifier. Hunt’s Saturday performance was one of the best individual days in school history, as Hunt set the school record in the long jump, and all six of Hunt’s jump registered more than 19 feet 2 inches or better.
Kali Hepner had a stellar day Saturday as well, clearing 12 feet in the pole vault for the first time of her college career. Hepner cleared 12 feet 7 inches on the day, falling just two inches shy of the SU record.
Along with Hunt, Danielle Sciremammano and Wagner shined in the long jump, as they each broke 19 feet for PRs. Other strong performances on the day included Dior Alston’s 400-meter dash performance, where she finished with a time of 56.96 seconds. Sciremammano finished the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.51 seconds.
For SU, it was a stellar weekend overall, with multiple Raiders continuing to improve on strong individual performances.
The Raiders will be back in action Wednesday, when it hosts the annual SU Track and Field Invitational at Seth Grove Stadium. The event will begin at 3 p.m.
