Shippensburg University President Laurie Carter announced in an email Thursday that a new executive director for Shippensburg University Student Service Inc. (SUSSI) has been hired.
Carter informed the university community that Adria Long has been appointed as executive director of (SUSSI) effective July 29.
Long, an SU alumna, previously served the university as the assistant director of accounting. Long is replacing Darrell Miller, the previous president and executive director of SUSSI, who stepped down from the positions of president, chief executive officer and chief financial officer effective June 17.
SUSSI and the Student Government Association (SGA) collaboratively provide funding to all student organizations on campus. According to SUSSI’s website: “SUSSI and the SGA provide funding, through the Student Activity Fee, to fund any SGA recognized student group for the purpose of enhancing the college experience for the student community. Student groups include interest clubs, club sports, performing arts groups, media groups, activities program board and NCAA intercollegiate athletic teams.”
According to Kim Garris, SU’s chief external affairs officer, Miller’s departure was a personnel issue that the university could not discuss. Carrie Michaels, senior associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator at SU, and SU director of accounting Michael Felice carried out Miller’s duties in the interim between his departure and Long’s appointment.
Long was selected by the SUSSI voting board, according to Garris. The board included Co-Special Administrators Carrie Michaels and Michael Felice, SGA President Aven Bittinger, accountant contract administrator Franklin Klink, Student Trustee Stephen Washington Jr., CUB staff member Sarah Schenk and SUSSI staff member Kay Stottlemyer.
“No student services have been interrupted in any way. They are conducting business as usual,” Garris said prior to Long’s selection.
In addition to searching for a new SUSSI executive director, the university is seeking to hire a new director of communications and marketing and a new director for the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center.
