The Shippensburg University volleyball team picked up two victories while on the road all weekend, traveling to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (UPJ).
On Friday, SU was able to pull out a 3-2 victory in a five-set match against IUP.
The Raiders started off slow in the first set, which is unlike them, falling 25-10. SU rebounded to take the second set 25-21. The Raiders continued to fight, splitting the third and fourth sets and were able to take the fifth set by a score of 15-9.
Of the 62 points, senior Kendall Johnson led the team generating 14.5 points. Johnson had eight kills, three aces, 0 service errors, three blocks and three digs.
Senior Gabriella Johnson led the team in kills with 11, and added 17 digs. Senior Megan Forstburg posted 20 digs for the Raiders.
“It was a little bit tight, but we knew how we play and it was just a matter of finding our groove,” junior Gianna Sigado said.
The Raiders traveled to UPJ for Saturday afternoon’s match on the Mountain Cats’ home court, where they took their second win of the weekend as well as their second PSAC win.
The Raiders took the match swiftly in three sets, starting off strong and keeping the momentum throughout. The Raiders’ set wins came by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15.
Senior Samantha Webber led the team in points with 12 kills, one block, three block assists and three digs, totaling 14.5 points for the Raiders. Webber only hit two errors.
Sigado helped lead the team in kills, putting down 12 with only one hitting error. The junior also posted two aces, two assists and 10 digs.
“After we found our groove, we carried it into Saturday’s game and make sure to lock it in and execute,” Sigado said.
Gabriella Johnson played another great game, totaling another 11 kills, one ace and eight digs.
The Raiders will compete next on Friday against Seton Hill University at 7 p.m. and Saturday against California University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m., both at Heiges Field House at Shippensburg University.
