This weekend the Shippensburg University women’s volleyball team split both their PSAC matches against Kutztown and East Stroudsburg Universities. The action started Friday night as the Raiders hosted Kutztown University.
The Raiders started strong winning the first four points in the first set. Then the Golden Bears broke the Raiders serve and cut the lead to 4-1. After the Raiders run, both teams would go on multiple runs, but ultimately the Raiders took the first set 25-19. SU had 15 kills in the set.
The second set was a lot closer as both teams would trade points. Shippensburg finished the second set with three consecutive kills and took the second set 25-23, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set against the Golden Bears, Kutztown dominated the set with a 12-2 run to stay alive in the match and force a fourth set. The Raiders had 12 kills and nine errors in the set.
In the fourth set, the Raiders started with a 5-0 run with five kills from freshman Lily Letchworth. The Raiders had multiple runs in the set and finished off the Golden Bears to win the match 3-1.
SU had 58 kills, 10 blocks and five aces in the match against Kutztown.
The Raiders hosted the East Stroudsburg Warriors on Saturday. In the first set, both teams went back and forth with multiple point runs. ESU took the first set of the match 26-24 by winning the final three points in a row.
In the second set, the Warriors continued their run, scoring the first five points. The Raiders broke the streak with two points of their own, but the Warriors ran away with the set, ultimately ending with a score of 25-12.
The third set was a lot closer than the second, and SU had 11 kills in the set. However, the Raiders fell in the third set 25-20, losing to the Warriors 3-0.
The Raiders had a total of 27 kills and 56 digs in the second match. With the loss the Raiders fall to 11-14 season.
This week, SU hosts two more PSAC opponents at Heiges Field House. On Friday they host the Bloomsburg Huskies at 7 p.m. and on Saturday the Raiders host Lock Haven at 1.pm.
