Shippensburg University’s men’s basketball team opened their game Saturday against Bloomsburg University on a 24-5 run on their way to a 70-62 win at Nelson Field House.
The Raiders dominated the glass in the contest pulling down a season-high 54 team rebounds, including 20 offensive boards leading to 16 second-chance points. It is the most rebounds in regulation for SU since 2017.
The Raiders were dominant early on and led by as many as 27 points, but the Huskies chipped away at the lead in the second half and ended the game on a 7-0 run to make the final margin respectable.
Graduate Jake Biss led the way for Shippensburg with 23 points and seven rebounds. He also had three steals.
Redshirt-junior Rashon Johnson achieved his third double-double in a row with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Fellow redshirt-junior Dom Sleva pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Junior Carlos Carter tallied 14 points, four rebounds and an assist. Freshman Michael Dunn scored seven points in his time off the bench.
The Huskies were led in scoring by Justin Anderson who poured in 19 points.
SU sits in third place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division with two games remaining in the season. Millersville and East Stroudsburg Universities sit in front of the Raiders in the division.
Shippensburg will close out their regular season schedule this week with games against Shepherd and Kutztown Universities.
SU will head to West Virginia on Wednesday to take on Shepherd University at 7:30 p.m.
The last time the Raiders faced Shepherd at Heiges Field House, SU was able to pull out the win 66-60.
Johnson scored 22 points off the bench in the contest.
