Maintenance personnel worked late into the night Friday to repair a water main break on campus.
According to Scott Moyer, HVAC supervisor, facilities were alerted to a water main break on the access road to Seth Grove Stadium just after 8 p.m. Friday.
A backhoe was used to dig out the area surrounding the pipe.
Henry Mooney, a resident of the College Park Commons, said the water main break was near the apartment complex.
“There was so much water on the pavement I thought we would all have to move our cars from the parking lot,” Mooney said.
Water to the stadium and the ShipRec had to be shut off while repairs were made; however, no student housing was affected.
“I began to see water flowing from the ground, it started to pool up and then drain into a nearby drainpipe. A couple of hours later a construction crew began to work on the area draining the water and fixing the pipe. They stopped at about 1:30 a.m.” Carlos Mora-Fallas, a College Park Commons resident, said.
Piper Kull was present near the water main break as it was happening.
“We saw it from outside and thought it was raining, and then maintenance knocked on the door to let al of us know what was going on,” Kull said.
A portion of the asphalt had to be torn up, and it will be repaved when the weather warms up, Moyer said.
The repairs were finished by 1 a.m. Saturday, and service was restored to the Ship Rec and Seth Grove Stadium.
