As the semester has kicked off, the Student Government Association (SGA) has been hard at work. First, we started our public meetings by inviting guest speakers in for the student body to come and hear about services as well as spend some time in question and answers.
We had Chief of Police Pat Taylor and Associate Vice President of Retention Jennifer Haughie to discuss the Student Success Center. In the months of October and November, we will have guest speakers from the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library, AOD and Recovery Center and the Shippensburg University student trustee, Rangeline DeJesus.
As was reported previously in The Slate, SGA voted to refrain from voting on the amendments to the constitution. Instead, at the Sept. 28 public meeting, SGA voted unanimously to form an ad-hoc committee to thoroughly review the constitution and make changes to bring forward for a vote.
The committee will consist of two members of the executive leadership committee, two senators, our student trustee and two general members of the student body. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please reach out to SGAPresident@ship.edu by Oct. 6 to be considered.
The Budget and Finance committee had its second meeting and will resume regular meetings on Tuesday, Oct. 3. We are highly encouraging students who are interested in joining the committee to do so. This committee makes budget decisions for student groups on campus. Join us on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in CUB 238.
Finally, thanks to all students who voted in the fall elections and those that ran campaigns as well as won through write-in votes. SGA is only strong when we have all student voices heard and represented.
We look forward to meeting as a full SGA at our upcoming retreat and serving the Shippensburg University student body this next year. Please join us at our next public meeting on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. in CUB 119.
