Rock music does not get its name from nothing; it rocks.
Since the 1950s, rock has been an influential genre that changed the face of music. Though other genres have risen to popularity, such as pop, hip-hop, R&B and alternative, rock is still “The Miracle” (Queen) of music. It remains popular in today’s culture because of the relatability biopics provide to newer generations. Actors encompass the passion, ambience and talent that rock bands provided for their audiences.
Biopics such as “The Dirt,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman” became very popular for younger generations due to their cinematic production and usage of famous, adaptable and young actors.
“The Dirt” was produced in 2019 and described the trials, tribulations and success of the band Mötley Crüe. Mötley Crüe’s drummer, Tommy Lee, was played by Machine Gun Kelly, who is known for dating Megan Fox, music and controversy. Tommy Lee was also known for his hopelessly romantic relationships with “Girls, Girls, Girls,” music and controversy. The similarity and storytelling was superiorly accurate.
Not only did the actors become the true band members with “Looks That Kill,” but they also showed the importance of keeping humans human, rather than separating them from realism. “The Dirt” is an insane biopic, but it is humorous, emotional and relatable for young audiences who have dreams. “Without You,” rock music would not have the success that it has.
“Bohemian Rhapsody,” produced in 2018, provided a touching and compelling memoir of the “Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy” Freddie Mercury, alongside the band Queen. Throughout the movie, the actors flattered the original band members, especially Freddie Mercury.
The exemplary Mercury was portrayed “Under Pressure” by Rami Malek who has acted in award-winning films and television series such as “Oppenheimer,” “Twilight,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Night at the Museum” and “No Time to Die.” Freddie Mercury is known for his tasteful performances, incredible voice and persistence of his vision. He is a deeply appreciated musician by all and has become even more popular in younger generations due to his activism, comfort on stage and the way he was portrayed on-screen.
Malek embodied Mercury’s iconic teeth within the movie, as Freddie Mercury
believed having non-straight and unaligned teeth assisted in the projection of “A Kind of Magic” his voice held. The movie shows that no matter what, “The Show Must Go On,” and those who love rock will love rock eternally.
In 2019, the biopic “Rocketman” was produced. This movie is an honorary film to Elton John about his life, his skill and, most importantly, his influence. Elton John was played by an actor named Taron Egerton, and the film introduced significantly new audiences to Elton John, who was already appreciated by many.
Known for his incredible eyewear and fashionable appearances, Elton John is the “rocket man.” The cinematic construction and accuracy of the film created relevance for younger generations, which shows the influence that rock can have. As we progress, it is “Never Too Late” to appreciate older impact.
Rock and roll will “rock you.” Through the production of the biopics, it is clear that as time progresses, music is appreciated by all ages from different generations. It is a “Circle of Life.” Watching these films gives insight to the “Wild Side” that these bands experienced, and how they persevered to make generationally valued tunes. Remember always: “Power to the Music!”
