Fashion is important globally. On Shippensburg University’s campus, there are annual trends that change, stick, and evolve. Since the pandemic began, everyday fashion has grown and updated in many ways, but are the trends we are presented with truly valuable, or only popular? That’s up to you.
Through the looking glass, there have been obvious trends in Shippensburg for the fall of 2023. On an average basis, it is easy to tell what trends people like, why they are trending, and who is following specific trends. Let’s look at fashion from an overall view.
One Pieces
Long Bodysuit: TikTok is a wildly enjoyed app. People, especially college students, spend all of their time on it. The TikTok Shop provides many items for a variety of different interests, and one of these interests has been their long bodysuit. The bodysuit is ribbed, compression-fitting and flattering in many ways. On campus, people have been buying and wearing this largely. It is a compelling piece, as it is simple while making you look put together. Dressing it up with your favorite shoes, socks and a sweater or jacket can be a great look.
Shoes
Platform Shoes: Platforms are in! In more recent times, platform shoes have made a severe impact. They elongate your legs, are cohesive and add dimension to any outfit. Some of the favorites on campus have been: Ugg boots (specifically Classic Ultra Mini and Tazz), Converse (any color, but people mostly choose white or black), and Doc Martens(specifically Jadon Smooth Leather or loafers).
Oversized Clothing
We know it and we love it. Oversized clothing is a huge trend; it is comfortable, appealing and convenient. Some of the items of oversized clothing that many people desire includes sweatshirts, sweatpants, jackets and coats, T-shirts and sweaters. Any design, any color, any brand – it simply will never go out of style. Some of the brands that have been rummaging through Shippensburg are White Fox, Nike, Shippensburg University merchandise, leather and puffer jackets and vintage sweater patterns.
Flared Pants
Another fantastic addition to any closet: flared pants. Bell bottoms and flare galore. Whether it is leggings, jeans, dress pants, or sweatpants, it is trending hardcore. People are wearing Lululemon, Aerie, H&M, American Eagle and thrifted items. Flared pants are popular because they turn simplicity into chic outfits. It does not matter what style, color, or fabric is used – if you have on flares, you’ll get stares.
Band / Musician Tees
Bands are in. They add to your outfit and become a conversation starter. It is beneficial to wear clothing based on music, as music is a large part of our world – especially on campus. Some of the bands that I have seen consistently are The 1975, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and The Rolling Stones. Many other bands and musicians are worn, but these are the most popular in the way that they’re worn most often. These pieces of clothing are often bought at stores including H&M, Hot Topic, Spencers, American Eagle, and Amazon. Who doesn’t love music?
Hair
On Shippensburg University’s campus, the most trending hairstyles include: split-dye, updos, claw clips, and bangs. Split-dye has been especially prominent in brunettes who dye the underneath blonde. Slick-back buns are trending in Shippensburg; they’re sleek, classy, and clean. Along with the slick-back, claw clips are popular. Bangs are also popular; whether they are curtain or straight-across, several people on campus have been enjoying their bangs.
Accessories
Gold jewelry: Gold has been a massive trend. It is elegant and classic. There are still silver lovers; however, gold hoops, intricate golden necklaces and gold rings have been extremely popular.
I cannot wait to see how fashion continues to grow on campus. Keep being unique and live beautifully.
