Shippensburg University’s women’s lacrosse team fell twice this past week to the Kutztown Bears on Wednesday and the West Chester Golden Rams on Saturday.
Both opponents are nationally ranked and proved great competition for the Raiders final stretch of six-straight road games.
On Wednesday, the Bears dominated each frame, though Shippensburg outscored them 3-2 in the last quarter. Sophomore Grace Larrimore scored the final goal with 10 seconds left on the clock, the second goal of her college career.
Shippensburg sophomore Keegan Dings had a career day. She scored a career-high four goals, one assist and career-best six draw controls. The four goals allowed Dings to surpass her career goals per season with a total of nine.
Defensively, freshman Brynn Hauck led a team-best three groundballs and junior goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg credited 14 saves. The final score was 18-7 for the Bears.
Saturday at Vonnie Gros Field, Shippensburg tallied seven goals from six different players —junior Sara Vosburg, first-year Olivia Glinski, junior Jamie Carvin, sophomore Shannon Wood, senior Emily Fenwick and first-year Ava Collins.
The Raiders scored their first goal at the 9:07 mark after a give-and-go between Vosburg and Glinski.
Toward the end of the first half, West Chester took a 9-0 run to put the Raiders out of reach to equalize.
Sophomore Grace DeMarzio registered two groundballs and two caused turnovers to lead the Raiders defensively.
The final score was 22-7 for the Golden Rams.
Shippensburg will continue its PSAC competition with its first home game of the season against Shepherd University on Wednesday, March 27. The game will begin at 3 p.m.
