While visiting Shippensburg University to promote new educational reforms in the 2024-25 state budget, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro faced a barrage of questions over his political future.
Shapiro has been floated as a leading candidate to join Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential ticket as her running mate. Reports from ABC News show Shapiro being considered as one of the top two candidates along with Arizona senator Mark Kelly.
Shapiro has repeatedly deflected on whether he would accept an offer but said Harris “will be the 47th President of the United States.”
“A decision on who’s best to partner, who’s best to help lead the country forward, who’s best to campaign with to ensure that we defeat Donald Trump and his extremism — the vice president should make that decision free from any political pressure,” Shapiro said. “I’m focused on doing my work.”
Shapiro did reveal that he has not been asked to submit any vetting materials to the Harris campaign and downplayed reports of him being on a “shortlist” of candidates.
“My administration, we’re gonna keep on taking on the status quo. We’re gonna keep on solving problems,” Shapiro said. “We’re gonna keep up bringing Democrats and Republicans together and focus on three simple letters in the alphabet. GSD — get stuff done. That is what we’re here to celebrate.”
