Shippensburg University’s men’s soccer team opened its season on the road with a 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill.
The first goal came early from senior Ashton Davies. Two minutes in, Davies finished a diving header in the box off a feed from sophomore Clay Waterman.
Waterman found sophomore Luca Heusser at the 32-minute mark for the Raiders’ second goal.
SU continued applying pressure on the Griffins defense. Junior Ethan Paulukow scored the third goal with an assist from freshman Ethan Omondi.
Defensively, sophomore Ryan Krumenacker had five saves to shut down the Chestnut Hill attack.
Several Raiders made their on-field debuts including Heusser, Waterman, Omondi, senior Luke Witham, junior Olu Sonubi, freshman Nate Herb, redshirt freshman Maddox Davies, freshman Tanner Horvath and freshman Kyle Ganley.
SU’s coaching staff added notches to their belts as well with the win. Head coach Jeremy Spering had his 90th career head coaching victory with the win over Chestnut Hill. He moves into second all-time in SU men’s soccer history for career coaching victories. SU’s new assistant coach Gaz Davies earned his first collegiate coaching victory as well.
The Raiders will continue their stint on the road with a match against Jefferson University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
