The Student Government Association (SGA) is happy to be running at full steam on campus once again and would like to announce some upcoming opportunities for the student body, as well as report on recent successes.
Speeches for potential senators were held in McFeely’s Coffeehouse on Sept. 19. All prospective candidates did a wonderful job presenting themselves, their goals and their skills. Senator election dates are right around the corner, beginning on Sept. 23 and ending on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Those interested in a spot on the senator ballot have already submitted the necessary forms and petition, but write-ins are always an option. The election will be held online, with a link to the ballot on Ship Link sent to student emails.
The public meeting for SGA on Oct. 3 will be with the new provost Darrell Newton. In his previous position, Newton led six academic colleges and eight administrative and service departments. Students are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held in CUB 119 at 4 p.m.
Shippensburg’s Family Day on Sept. 21 saw attendance from SGA to interact with parents, students and friends. The open house, donuts with the Dean and family tailgate all provided a great opportunity to engage with the community and help spread awareness of campus resources.
SGA is always interested in finding motivated and passionate students to take part in committees. Anyone interested in taking part in a committee should reach out to sgavpinternal@ship.edu. This is a good opportunity for those wishing to be more informed and influential in campus developments. Committees include Budget and Finance, Campus Safety and Facilities, Diversity and Inclusion, Food Service and Sustainability, and Student Groups.
Any questions should be directed to your class senator, or any member of the Executive Leadership Committee.
