Shippensburg University’s football team lost at West Chester Saturday. The team’s season record moves to 1-4.
The first quarter had a slow start on the stat sheet, with neither team scoring a point. In the second quarter, the Rams acquired a quick lead by scoring two touchdowns in five minutes. Shippensburg scored a 24-yard field goal by freshman Wilson Ingerski before halftime. The field goal followed the longest drive of the game At 15 plays and 87 yards.
The Raiders continued the late first-half momentum into the third quarter. Redshirt sophomore Josiah Leonard scored a 37-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 14-10.
Seven minutes later, West Chester scored another touchdown. Two minutes later, the Rams scored again.
The fourth quarter was scoreless. Despite the loss, Shippensburg controlled the ball for a 13-minute advantage and recorded a season-high 24 downs and ran for a season-high 202 yards.
Leonard ran a career-high 119 yards on 16 carries and had no negative runs. Redshirt junior Tanner Hess had 17 carries for 85 yards. Freshman Vincent Micucci earned his first career start at quarterback.
Defensively, redshirt junior Terrance Peterson Jr. recorded a team-high seven tackles. Redshirt junior Jeremiah Carothers totaled 1.5 tackles for losses.
West Chester ended a four-game losing streak. Head Coach Duke Greco picked up his first win as a Golden Ram and junior quarterback Cooper Jordan shined with three touchdowns.
Shippensburg will continue its road campaign against Millersville next Saturday at noon.
