Shippensburg University’s field hockey team won its first PSAC Championship since 2021 this weekend, beating Bloomsburg 2-1 in Friday’s semifinal before taking down East Stroudsburg 2-1 in Sunday's championship match.
The match against Bloomsburg remained scoreless into the third quarter until the Huskies took a 1-0 lead. The Raiders were down until the final minute, but senior Valu Paul scored her sixth goal of the season to tie it.
The match went to overtime, where senior Alexa Michielsen scored off a penalty corner with an assist from sophomore Carme Caracotche Picone to give SU the victory.
Sunday’s championship match was scoreless through regulation, with limited offensive chances for both teams. The Raiders came to life in overtime, with Michielsen once again providing the game-winning goal. She was named PSAC Tournament MVP.
SU clinched a spot in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament as a result. The Raiders first-round opponent will be revealed on Monday, and they will host an opening-round game on Saturday.
