Shippensburg University’s baseball team won three out of four games this past weekend against Bloomsburg, winning 17-5 in Game 1, falling 7-6 in Game 2 and winning 4-1 and 9-4 in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The results move the Raiders to 16-7 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

The SU offense wasted no time in Friday’s series opener, erupting for seven runs in the first inning. Two-run hits from graduate Carter Arbuthnot and senior Carter Hinds were the main factors, along with the help of two Huskies errors.

The bats remained hot, as SU put up seven more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a solo home run from junior AJ Wenrich.

Seven different Raiders had an RBI in the game, with Hinds leading the way with four, followed by sophomore Ty Sherman’s three. Freshman Mason Morris went 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

Graduate Jaxon Dalena earned the win after allowing three earned runs in four innings, striking out a season-high 10. Graduate Eric Bohenek got the save after three innings in relief.

Game 2 saw Bloomsburg start strong, scoring four in the first. SU responded quickly, with Morris hitting a two-run single in the second and freshman Evan Shoffler adding an RBI single to make it 4-3.

Wenrich hit his second homer of the day in the fifth to cut the lead back to two. Hinds made it a one-run game, but the Huskies added an insurance run in the sixth. Hinds earned another RBI via a groundout in the seventh, but BU’s Nolan Walker got a strikeout to end the game.

Redshirt senior Cam Goble lasted just one inning in his start, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits and two walks. Sophomore Conner Barto pitched a strong 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The series moved to SU on Saturday, where the Raiders took the lead on a two-run double from sophomore Erby Weller in the second. They added on in the fifth thanks to back-to-back solo home runs from Wenrich and Sherman, holding on for a 4-1 win.

Junior J.T. Weaver shined on the mound for Shippensburg, allowing one run on five hits and three walks in six innings of work, striking out three. The victory puts him at 5-0 on the year. Junior Brenden Anderson earned his second save in the triumph.

The Raiders began the series finale with a four-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Arbuthnot, along with singles from Sherman and senior Bryce Herb. Morris and senior Gio Calamia added RBIs in the second, making it a 6-1 game.

Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth, before SU managed to add a few more runs. Senior Mike Heckman had an RBI double in the fifth before Morris and Arbuthnot drove the final runs home in the sixth to cap off a 9-4 decision.

Sophomore Bryce Amos got the win after a four-inning start, allowing one run on five hits and four walks. Anderson added on two more innings of strong relief as well.

Next for Shippensburg baseball is a crucial four-game series against perennial powerhouse Millersville. The teams will play a doubleheader at Millersville at 1 p.m. Friday, before two games at Fairchild Field on Saturday.
