The King & Saint Café opened on March 3 in Shippensburg.
The King & Saint Café on 512 West King St. is a new café and bakery in Shippensburg.
During its grand opening, free coffee and pastries were handed out for over two hours to well over 200 people who showed up to see the new office space turned European-style café and bakery.
Café owner Jonathan Bohannan also owns the Renaissance Events facility, which has multiple different vendors. When one dropped the lease, Bohannan decided to renovate the vacant rooms into a Parisian-style café and pastry shop.
Bohannan envisions King & Saint as more than your run-of-the-mill coffee house — he wants to see his store grow into a community hub for clubs, friends and families. He has integrated internet bars with free Wi-Fi and charging ports and quiet library seating for those who prefer a peaceful cup of “joe.”
Even non-locals came to see the grand opening and get a free bite of Bohannon’s pastries.
“We have a mix of people coming through,” Bohannan said, alluding to his friends that came all the way from Maryland to see the shop. “We want to make this a destination.”
King & Saint also has its religious roots. “We exist to glorify God,” Bohanon said, “but we won’t shove it down anyone’s throats,” promising a welcoming place for people of all beliefs and backgrounds. He hopes Bible study groups and other religious gatherings utilize the private rooms offered for reservations.
This might be his first café, but Bohannon brought his “A-game.” His head chef and baker, a former executive chef at Wilson College, uses fresh ingredients from his own farm in Chambersburg.
Meanwhile, Bohannan’s business partner and barista, Andrew York, has been helping with renovations and menu items since August 2024.
"Andrew puts his heart into everything," Bohannon said, reflecting on his collaborative and friendly spirit that defines the store.
Even though he is open for business, he still has much on his to-do list for the café, such as additional breakfast items and a cocktail bar for later hours on the weekend. His more interesting menu items consist of his espresso tonic and Irish cream pastries, which he says will one day be named after him.
