Shippensburg University’s Career Center kicked off Career Week by hosting its fourth annual Sailing into Success Fashion Show on March 19 in the CUB at 4 p.m.
Shippensburg University students participated in the fashion show as models to showcase outfits in the Career Center’s Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet. The closet provides students with free business clothes to further their professional development.
Megan Luft, vice president of Enrollment Management and Marketing, and Jeff Ward, associate director of Housing Operations, were emcees for the event. Both kept the audience engaged with commentary, including both style advice about professional outfits and dad jokes.
The show was divided into three categories — closet basics, business casual and business professional. For each category, student models walked the runway in outfits from the professional dress closet.
The fashion show was sponsored by Enterprise Mobility. Shawn Allen, an area manager for the company, represented Enterprise Mobility in the show as a model, walking alongside both Shippo the Hippo and Big Red.
The Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet was created to allow SU students access to professional clothes without having to worry about the costs. By hosting the fashion show, the Career Center can showcase this resource to the students.

The Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet continues to grow over the years, and the number of students who visit the closet to get professional clothing continues to rise, as well.
“We went from serving roughly 70 students a year to 500 when we started doing (the fashion show) four years ago,” said Victoria Kerr, executive director of the Career Center.
The Career Center also hosted a raffle for event attendees. Two raffle tickets were drawn at the end of the event for one attendee to win a $20 Starbucks gift card, and a $50 Walmart gift card for another attendee.
Associate Director of Career Development Nevin Khalil put together the event, which would not have been possible without its donors. Here’s Looking at You was a specialty clothing donor for the event, and SU alum Marilyn Wilson also donated many clothing items to the closet and fashion show as well.
The Career Center is hosting events throughout Career Week to get students excited about networking and future careers. Join the Career Center on March 27 at the Job & Internship Fair from 1-4 p.m. in the ShipRec.
