The Asian American and Pacific Islander Organization (AAPIO) hosted its third annual Asian and Pacific Islander Extravaganza on April 10, bringing a vibrant mix of music, dance and cuisine to the Ceddia Union Building.
The event, first introduced after AAPIO’s revitalization in 2020, featured returning performer Ron Collins, managing director of Tampa Taiko. Collins led an interactive taiko drumming performance, inviting students to the stage to learn and play traditional Japanese rhythms.
Also taking the stage were the DC Hula Girls, who engaged audience members in a hula dancing session. Students of all genders joined the performers to learn basic hula steps and movements.
Catering was provided by Rice & Pho, AAPIO member Josephine Hughes, Kenzos and Reisner Dining Hall. Attendees enjoyed a wide variety of Asian cuisine, including chicken wings, spring rolls, boba tea and sushi.
