The Shippensburg women’s tennis team split home matches this past week against East Stroudsburg University and Shepherd University. Their overall record moves to 7-10.
On Monday, the Raiders fell to PSAC East leaders ESU.
At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Ava Kalist and senior Kendall Winters had a strong performance after losing points early. The final score was 6-2 for ESU.
The Raiders fought hard in singles despite the ESU sweep.
Sophomore Brinley Orris battled at No. 6 singles in the longest match of the day and won five games. Freshman Jade Miller also won five games at No. 3 singles.
Senior Brooklyn Rupert won four games in the second set at No. 5 singles.
Looking to bounce back, SU faced Shepherd on Tuesday.
The team earned its first divisional win of the season against the Rams, 7-0.
Senior Yasmin De Meyer, who earned a win at No. 2 singles, described how exciting the team’s success was. “It was a great feeling to get the win,” De Meyer said. “After a really tough game on Monday, it was awesome to step out and show up on Tuesday to earn wins in every match.”
Junior Corinne Markovich, Miller, sophomore Rachel Gallagher, Rupert and Orris also collected singles wins.
The Raiders’ three-for-three doubles wins came from duos Rupert and Miller, Kalist and Winters, and freshman Lauren Seip and sophomore Janelle Kingsboro.
The team will complete its regular season with four matches next week against Bowie State, Millersville, West Chester and Bloomsburg.
Before the match against Bloomsburg, SU will honor the seniors of the team with a Senior Day ceremony at Robb Sports Complex. It will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
