Folk and Americana musicians serenade The Thought Lot

The sounds of acoustic guitar reverberated throughout The Thought Lot on Friday, Dec. 11 as each singer stepped forward to share their interpretations of life through music. Folk music is known for the platform it provides to musicians who want to give audiences a very personal view of their lives.

Two quartets bring four times the vocal prowess to Luhrs

Bagpipes and Christmas were the themes of the Celtic Woman show at H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center and the power of four men was the theme of the Tenors. Celtic Woman, a group of four talented Irish songstresses, three vocalists and a violinist, sang and played holiday favorites to a packed Luhrs audience on Dec.

You're a great movie, 'Peanuts'

Adults and children alike have adored the “Peanuts” comic strip for decades. Everyone knows the beloved characters of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Peppermint Patty and all the adventures they have together while attending elementary school. Personally, I have always appreciated the intelligence of the characters, considering how young they are.

Student music ensembles entrance audiences

Shippensburg University was full of music on Saturday as several SU musical ensembles performed their fall semester concerts. Old Main Chapel hosted the flute choir, the saxophone choir and the clarinet choir all in one day as the groups performed to a packed house; each individual group performed three to four songs of various genres.

The virtuoso violinist and his journey to harmony

Students at Shippensburg University have weaved in and out of music classes in recent years. They have explored and learned about the musical styles and dynamics of classical music, American popular music and various other forms. It is a guarantee that these students have worked closely with or bumped into Mark Hartman, an assistant professor of music at SU. Hartman experienced the typical childhood of a music enthusiast.

One Direction fans around the world were rejoicing on Friday as the band dropped its new album after the loss of key member Zayn Malik. “Made In The A.M.” is the popular boy band’s fifth studio album, and the first album without Malik, who left in March.

Styx sticks in audience's minds

“Goo goo g’joob.” What makes that sound? Is it a lion, a cheetah, a whale, a plane, a fan? Some might say that is the sound a walrus makes. The only thing for sure though was it was one of the many sounds Styx made Wednesday, Nov.

Stepping into the world of satire

If The Three Stooges ran into Bugs Bunny and then collaborated with Deadpool, they would have created something akin to “The 39 Steps.” It is a play filled with 39 levels of satire that constantly breaks through the fourth wall of the theater world.

Act V presents its fall play ‘The 39 Steps’

The stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchock’s 1935 film “The 39 Steps,” brings melodrama and comedy to Memorial Auditorium, as Act V’s fall production. The show follows Richard Hannay, played by Tyler Michael Law, an innocent British man in his mid 30s dealing with the boredom of everyday life as he is thrust into the world of Nazi Intelligence.

The set of “Saturday Night Live” was painted red, white and blue on Nov. 7 when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the guest host. The episode was one of the season’s flattest, with Trump having a hard time delivering the small amount of jokes the writers threw at him.

A new art gallery has been opened on the Shippensburg University campus, but it does not display the works of well-known artists, instead it displays the works of young artists seeking to make their work known for the first time.

The audience at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center on Thursday witnessed a night of true comedic talent with the help of blue collar comedy legend Bill Engvall. A comedic icon since the ’90s, Engvall is known for his laid back humor that relates to the average, hardworking person.

‘A Night of Metal’ invades The Thought Lot

Even though it was cold outside, it was warm inside the Halloween-themed Thought Lot as three bands brought the fire and intensity of death metal roots. Bound by the Grave, DNA Through Ashes and Sadistic Vision shredded their way into the hearts of locals, resonating with the love of music that demands an audience to thrash around, no matter how small the venue.
