Football stumbles in home opener

The Shippensburg University football team could not overcome a flat first-half performance in what amounted to a 48-28 defeat at the hands of Clarion University in the Red Raider’s home opener on Saturday afternoon at Seth Grove Stadium.

Brycen Mussina, seen dropping back to pass in a game last season, is set to lead the Raiders’ offense this season. The redshirt sophomore’s play on the field should improve after gaining one year of experience leading the team’s offense. Last season, as a redshirt freshman, he threw for 32 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Football looks to return to postseason

Red Raiders end the streak to close season

Although the season did not necessarily go as planned, the Shippensburg University football team can rest its hat on the fact that it clinched its eighth-consecutive winning season with a complete-game victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West opponent Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), 45–21.

Red Raiders trample Warriors on Senior Day

An offensive display gave the Shippensburg University football team a dominant win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival East Stroudsburg University on Senior Day from Seth Grove Stadium, 48–7.

The receiving core for the Red Raiders has been a strong point for SU this season. The unit has racked up 26 scores this season, led by Josh Gontarek’s eight.

Offense looks stellar against Bald Eagles

Thanks to a huge performance from redshirt-freshman quarterback Brycen Mussina and the Red Raider offense in the second half, the Shippensburg University football team claimed a 56–37 win over a fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) squad in Lock Haven University (LHU).

Running back Sean Judge had 36 yards on the ground and 31 yards receiving with a touchdown in the big win against Millersville.

Red Raiders shut out rival Marauders to break streak

Nothing less than a dominant win would be satisfactory for the Shippensburg University football team after dropping its last four contests in disappointing fashion. That dominant win came on Saturday as the Red Raiders soundly defeated Millersville University away from home, 37–0.

Senior quarterback Chase Yocum (No. 15) had one of SU’s two rushing touchdowns against LIU Post. Yocum is used in many red zone situations as a read option quarterback. He has a handful of short touchdown runs so far this season. Yocum has as many touchdowns on the ground (3) as the combined running back core.

Football loses rivalry to Golden Rams

The Shippensburg University football team was looking to bounce back after a pair of difficult losses in a row when it traveled to No. 12-ranked West Chester to take on the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rivalry.

Wide receiver Charles Headen III (No. 3) led the way for the Red Raiders with two touchdown receptions on 55 yards receiving in the game against Bloomsburg.

Football bitten by Huskies, 28-24

Despite an impressive performance from redshirt-freshman quarterback Brycen Mussina under the lights, the Shippensburg University football team could not pull out the win in its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup of the season against Bloomsburg University, dropping the contest by a score of 28–24.

The SU offense struggled to get much momentum going on offense throughout the game. The unit tried a balanced attack with passing and the run game, but neither could give the Red Raiders a foothold in the game. The ground attack could not reach 100 yards and the SU quarterbacks threw for just 229 yards.

Football suffers setback against Vulcans, 57-14

The Shippensburg University football team went back to action after riding the high of an intense, last-minute victory against Slippery Rock University in its previous outing, only to fall flat on both offense and defense in a big loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West squad California University of Pennsylvania (CALU), 57–14.

SU defense shuts down Huskies

Shippensburg University played its worst second half offensively this season on Saturday against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division rival Bloomsburg University, turning the ball over four times and converting just 3-of-17 third downs in the game.

Red Raiders pull off last minute win, improve to 2-0

The Shippensburg University football team took the field against cross-conference opponent Slippery Rock University for the first time in five years, ending with a thrilling finish that brought SU fans to their feet as the Red Raiders took the win in the final seconds, 25–21.

The Red Raiders will take the field with a new look offense this season with the loss of several key seniors.

Football set to kick off new campaign

The Shippensburg University football team has its eyes set high going into the new season. The squad reached the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, last season, after posting a 10–1 record in the regular season, only the fifth season in school history with 10 wins.

The last time Shippensburg University offensive coordinator J.C. Morgan stood on the sidelines at Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium he called plays from the visitor’s sideline during the annual Red-White spring game.
