With only a week until Election Day, just about everyone has questions they want to ask about the president. For Shippensburg University, a different kind of president took questions from the student body on Thursday afternoon. SU President Charles Patterson and other administrators met with the student body Thursday afternoon in a reimagined, SGA-sponsored President’s Hour in the Ceddia Union Building.
Cumberland Valley Community Connections hosted its third annual Shippensburg Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 26 and 27. The free two-day event took place at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. It included many activities that were amusing for all ages.
In this election, voters are presented with two choices: Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. In the opinion of The Slate Editorial Board, Harris is the correct choice.
Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District candidates faced off in a debate held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in Harrisburg. The debate was moderated by ABC27 news anchor Dennis Owens. A week later, Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and Republican Senate nominee Dave McCormick faced-off in their second debate on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the WPVI-TV studio in Philadelphia.

Before getting to the details of the report, I would like to first address the unique role that the student trustee plays and what the Council of Trustees is.
On Nov. 29, 2017, Matt Lauer was fired from the Today Show. At 7 a.m., just as I did every day at the time, I was brushing my teeth, attempting to comb my hair and making my way downstairs to eat breakfast before getting on the bus just before 8 a.m. But that day was different. As I was finishing upstairs, I heard the familiar sound of the Today Show’s opening music echoing from my kitchen. By the time I stepped into the room, I heard Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb reading the statement alleging Lauer’s sexual misconduct.

With just over a month left until election day, both candidates continue to campaign in battleground states in a tight presidential race. According to national polling data from the New York Times, Vice President Harris holds a small lead over Trump in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada. In North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona, Trump is leading by an equally small margin. Neither candidate holds more than a three percentage point lead over their opponent in each battleground state.
Diversity Week 2024 has come to a close, but its message still carries on across campus. Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) revealed “A Quilt to Cover Us All” Friday on the Gilbert Lawn, bringing Diversity Week to an end. Each panel of the quilt was created by faculty and students, representing the diversity, inclusivity and unity on campus.
Following the Shippensburg University Student Government Association (SGA) meeting held on Thursday, Sept. 19, four prospective SGA senators gave their speeches in McFeely’s in the CUB at 5 p.m. Three of the senator candidates are running to represent the Class of 2028. The fourth is running to represent the Class of 2025.
Shippensburg University’s Student Government Association (SGA) approved changes to its Budget and Finance Committee (B&F) standing rules at its meeting last week. The amendments to the rules include the addition of a special funding request process that will allow groups to request additional funds to supplement their budget. The committee allocated $120,000 to the fund after SU President Charles Patterson approved a student activity fee increase at the end of the budget process last year.
