Change in gun culture could be cause of mass shootings

The increased amount of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States over the past decades could have been caused by a change in violent gun culture and the normalization of guns, according to Pamela Monaghan-Geernaert, an SU sociology professor.

The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court will hear oral arguments from the lawsuit, William Penn School District v. PA Department of Education, that challenges inequitable and inadequate school funding in Pennsylvania on Wednesday morning.

Honors program to become college

Shippensburg University’s Honors Program will officially become The Wood Honors College in the fall of 2018, and the full curriculum change will take place in the fall of 2019, which also marks the 35th anniversary of honors education at SU.

Frank Varnauskas, 33, of Newville, was driving northbound behind a vehicle in Southampton Township on Thursday around 5:40 p.m. when he began to pass the vehicle on a double yellow line.

Panel emphasizes diplomacy

The Shippensburg University Grove Forum was filled with students, faculty and community members, leaving standing room only, last Thursday for a presentation and guest panel hosted by the political science department.
