Shippensburg’s Sheetz is awaiting the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) to approve them for a pending license to sell beer at their store on King Street. The Shippensburg Borough Council voted “yes” to Sheetz’s request at a July 17 meeting in a five-to-one decision, The Carlisle Sentinel reported.

Professor Perin Gurel, an assistant professor of American studies at Dickinson College, explained the influence of American films on Turkish movies in her presentation “National Affects and Special Effects: Comedy and America in Turkish Film” on Wednesday in Grove Hall Forum. She said that although filmmakers experiment with different genres, comedies are the highest grossing of all Turkish films.

The fountain in front of Old Main, a popular symbol of Shippensburg University, has returned to its former glory after nearly three months of renovation in Alabama.
Shippensburg University’s Council of Trustees received an update at its March 30 meeting regarding the completion of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail in Shippensburg. Tim Ebersole, executive director of SU’s Office of Alumni Affairs and Government Relations; Jim Smedley, a representative from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Municipal Services; and Garrett Stahlman, vice president of the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council (CVRTC), spoke to trustees, explaining the final step in completing Shippensburg’s end of the trail into the downtown area. PennDOT and CVRTC have received $800,000 in federal funding to complete the project by June 2013, Ebersole said. With no cost to the university, PennDOT will complete the last mile of the trail into Shippensburg, ending on North Earl Street.
