Student Senate to fill vacant positions

Elections for two Student Senate positions opened Monday morning, giving Shippensburg University students the opportunity to vote for the class of 2019 representatives until Thursday. Raven Francis and Zach Gates are the only two candidates running for the positions.

Student Senate sends clubs in digital direction

The management of student groups at Shippensburg University is headed in a digital direction this year with the help of Student Senate. The new software, Community@SHIP, is a site that now assists clubs in running day-to-day operations, said Student Senate Treasurer Justin Schneider.

Annual Security Report examines crimes at SU

The Shippensburg University Annual Security Report was released to students and staff this week to show statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes and procedures. The report includes crimes related to alcohol, drugs, sexual assault and weapons that occurred on campus, which includes property owned by SU and on public property.

In the past four years, a civil war broke out in Syria when pro-democratic citizens challenged their authoritarian government, according to the BBC. Since then, more than 200,000 people have died from fighting.

Religious activists visit SU for papal plea

Shippensburg University students had the chance to take political and religious action on Aug. 30, when members of The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) arrived on campus to gather signatures for a petition to Pope Francis. TFP is a Catholic American organization that attempts to solve crises affecting American society and the Catholic Church.

Immigrants found dead in abandoned truck

Austria — 71 bodies were found in Austria in an abandoned truck, reported CNN. Italian and Hungarian authorities arrested three Bulgarian citizens and an Afghan citizen in connection with the deaths.

SUTV awarded with multiple Emmy nominations

Student media groups at Shippensburg University have a history of success, and this month, one is being recognized. Earlier this August, both SUTV and several alumni received a total of 17 Mid-Atlantic Emmy nominations, including three for broadcasts from the last academic year.

Tuition to increase for state system schools

The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) voted in favor of increasing tuition costs for its 14 universities for the 2015-16 academic year, according to PASSHE.
