SU updates its strategic plan for 2013-2014

Shippensburg University is in the process of updating its strategic plan for the 2013–14 school year. A 15–person steering committee consisting of representatives for all constituencies on campus, including students, faculty, staff, alumni and trustees, will be heavily involved in the entire process. The process involves a comprehensive look at SU’s mission, vision, core values and beliefs.

Ruud hired at UNI - who will be next president of SU?

An interim president will serve in place after the previous president leaves and before a new one is permanently hired. Kenn Marshall, media relations manager of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), said the search process begins at the campus level.

Former Biscotti restaurant finds itself in familiar hands

The coffee bar café formerly known as Biscotti, located on 300 N. Earl St., has changed owners and is now known as Wheel House Café. The change happened in mid-December, when Biscotti owners, the Skiles and Freeman families, sold the business to a team consisting of a husband and wife as well as a family friend.

PASSHE, APSCUF agree on framework for new contract

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) announced Sunday morning that they have agreed on a framework for a new contract. The agreement comes after slow-moving negotiations that centered on active and retiree health care and distance education, which have been points of conflict throughout this more than year-long process.

It is a well-known fact that attending a college or university is a costly endeavor. Not only do students who pursue a degree have to pay for the tuition; there are many other costs that are incurred and added to the overall bill as well.

Students share pros and cons of new Residence Halls

Shippensburg University recently completed the first phase of a three-phase housing project. In January, students moved into the new buildings — Presidents Hall, McClean Hall II and Seavers Hall. Although the new suite-style dormitories include many favorable amenities the older buildings did not, students feel there are still some things they would change. One of the amenities that are different is there are laundry rooms on each floor, rather than just one room in the basement.

SU celebrates completion of Residence Halls Phase 1

“Students first” was the primary message on Friday, Feb. 1 at the ribbon-cutting ceremony held in Presidents Hall, one of three new additions to Shippensburg University’s renovation project. “You are on the first floor of a four-story hotel,” University President William Ruud said.

PA moves toward privatization of management for lottery

On Jan. 12, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue announced that it had awarded a 20-year private management contract to Camelot Global Services PA, LLC. According to spokesperson Jay Pagni, the commonwealth is looking for the lottery to turn in a more stable form of revenue as the senior population increases.

SU student researches cell phone service in Shippensburg

Will Davis, a student in Shippensburg University’s geography-earth science department has attempted to find an answer to the age-old debate on who provides better cell phone service by using modern technology. Most students at SU use smartphones for entertainment and school work.
