Self-advocating is the best advocating: Nafisah Conix

As a Black woman, the transition to a primarily white institution will never be easy, especially coming from places that do not lack diversity of people who look like you. Nafisah Conix is no stranger to this transition, and she has found a graceful way to stay true to who she is, advocate for herself and make her presence known here at Shippensburg University.

SU Music Department hosts wind ensemble concert

 The woodwind ensembles of the Shippensburg University music department held their fall semester concert in Old Main Chapel on Nov. 6. Three groups including the flute choir, clarinet ensemble and saxophone ensemble spent the semester coming together and practicing various pieces for this concert.

‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ does everything right

 There is nothing funnier than a comedy of errors, and there are plenty of errors to be found in the recent production of “The Play That Goes Wrong.” Let it be known that when it comes to this show, I mean that in the best way possible.

A Night of Treats not Tricks

 As the month of October came to an end, the families and children in the Shippensburg community came together for nights of Halloween festivities. On Monday, Oct 24, both students and families alike came together for a fun-filled night of Treats not Tricks.

Shippensburg community celebrates fall at Pumpkin Fest

   With fall in the air, the Cumberland Valley Community Connections hosted its first Pumpkin Fest at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on Oct. 21-23.  The three-day event featured live pumpkin carver Danny Kissel, a Pennsylvania native who was most recently on the TV series “Outrageous Pumpkins” in 2020, as well as Food Network’s “Halloween Wars.” Aside from the live pumpkin carving, there were various food trucks, fall craft vendors, live music and plenty of activities for the kids.

SUTV takes home another Emmy

Shippensburg University’s student media kicked off October in a victorious fashion — specifically Shippensburg’s very own TV station, SUTV News. Members of the student-produced news station traveled to Philadelphia to attend the 40th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards ceremony.

Shippensburg University alumni spotlights

Shippensburg University alumni gathered behind Seth Grove Stadium for another year of tailgating befor the homecoming football game on Oct. 15. Alumni and current students gathered near their own cars or organization tents to socialize before the game. The Slate spoke with some of the alumni who attended this year’s SU tailgate to hear the recounts of the generations of SU alumni.

The CMPDC holds fall job and internship fair

The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center held the Fall Job and Internship Fair at the ShipRec on Friday afternoon. Over 120 employers were in attendance to look for potential employees. There were job opportunities for various majors, ranging from law enforcement to health care. There were even options for students to continue their education at grad school. There was an opportunity for every student, no matter their career goals.
