Student Spotlight: Darby Sells

At Shippensburg University, many students try to balance their school work and social life. Junior Darby Sells has become an expert at juggling her schedule. Sells is a communication/journalism major and decided to focus on electronic media because of the opportunities it provided. “By working at SUTV, I am able to combine my interests in different types of media and produce a single package of information to viewers,” Sells said.

Greek Life proves it is more than it seems

Greek Life is no stranger to the public eye, nor is it uncommon for people to read stories with negative characteristics surrounding them. A University of Alabama sorority, Alpha Phi, was criticized for a salacious recruitment video objectifying women and not acknowledging any values.

Chess club competes in Budapest, Hungary

Shippensburg University’s chess club recently returned from competing in Budapest, Hungary over winter break. Four students, Anthony Ciarlante of Shippensburg, Lula Eichenlaub of Neelyton, Jacob Painter of Three Springs and Nick McGarrell of Carlisle, along with alumnus Clay Henninger of Shippensburg competed in the Perenyi Memorial Open tournament from Jan.

Homesickness is a nearly universal phenomenon, but many times it is an ailment that can be trivialized and simply wrote off as something that will pass with time. Though this is sometimes true, many who suffer from homesickness need help to relieve themselves of the day-to-day drudgery that is living away from those you miss and love.

Being black in America, how far have we come?

Since 2012, events involving the murder of unarmed African-Americans have resulted in the creation of “Black Lives Matter” (BLM), a national organization fighting for the end of mistreatment of African-American citizens in the United States. “Race still shapes the lives that we lead as Americans, the opportunities that we receive, the surveillance that we experience, the challenges that we encounter,” Corrine Bertram, Shippensburg University associate professor of the psychology department said.

APB hosts its largest bingo yet

The Activities Program Board had its annual holiday bingo Friday, December 4 at 8 p.m. This year it was sponsored by Volvo, which boosted APB’s budget to $3000 and with this increase came some great prizes. Some of the prizes up for grabs included a smart TV, two laptops, a drone, a Coach wallet, a Sephora make-up palette, both an electric and acoustic guitar and the biggest of them all, a brand new hoverboard.
